Under the direction of the state archivist, the Massachusetts Archives is responsible for securing, preserving, and managing noncurrent records of the Commonwealth determined to possess archival value. Series is created to document acquisition of such records. includes typed transcript. (Ms. original for 1934-1973 lacking.) Information includes accession date, record series title/dates, and receiving officer. Photocopy (and ms. original from Oct. 1984 only) annotated with accession no. and (from 1982) agency code/series no. dditionally constitutes legal proof of transfer of each accession. Information includes creating/tranferring agencies and code; accession no./date; series title/no., disposal schedule item no., span dates, volume; signatures of transferring, receiving, and custodial officers; and comments on contents and acquisitions/processing needs/procedures.
